Berliner was a German immigrant to the United States who invented the first disk phonograph. It had a hand crank and a very large horn that created sound but was unable to maintain proper pitch. Berliner's machine was improved by Eldridge Johnson, the founder of the Victor Talking machine Company that eventually produced the Victrola and recording became more popular than musical instruments. |
