Sir Alexander Fleming
(1881 - 1955)
Alexander Fleming was born in Scotland in 1881. Early in his study of medicine, he became very interested in the bacterial action of blood and in antiseptics.

During World War I, Sir Alexander Fleming was a captain in the Army medical Corps where he continued his research into vaccines.

He is best known for his discovery of penicillin, which is used today to treat several types of infectious diseases.

Fleming died in March 1955 after a very rewarding medical career.
