Hippocrates
|
Hippocrates was a Greek physician who lived on the island of Kos near Rhodes. He is often referred to as the "father of medicine" and many stories of his intelligence and compassion have made him a legend. He is best known for composing the Hippocratic Oath in which doctors promised to care for those who are ill to the best of their ability and to share their knowledge with others.
Hippocrates was an example of the ideal physician and for centuries, other physicians patterned their work after him.
