Louis Pasteur was a French biologist and chemist who linked the cause of disease to the presence of germs. He invented a process known as pasteurization in which milk is heated then cooled rapidly to kill all bacteria.
Pasteur also discovered that by inoculating a patient with the rabies virus, the patient could be treated for the disease.
Pasteur founded a research institute in Paris for the treatment of disease. This institute still operates today and is recognized worldwide for its work.
