Sir William Ramsay

Sir William Ramsay was a British scientist born in 1852 who is best known for his work in the isolation of various gases from the atmosphere. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and educated at the University of Glasgow. He worked as a professor of chemistry at the University of Bristol and at the University of London. In 1895 he became the first to isolate helium. Ramsay also discovered argon, neon, krypton, and xenon. He was awarded the 1904 Nobel Prize in chemistry.
